Pollution, the destruction of marine habitats, overfishing, and the impacts of climate change are amongst the major drivers of the ocean’s decline. With over 3 billion people relying on the oceans for their livelihood, the world has recognised the opportunities that sustainable ocean-based economies provide. A comprehensive global regime addressing the conservation & sustainable use of marine biological diversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction is urgently needed. Our prominent speakers are actively involved in policy-making, advocacy or enterprise and will discuss their hopes and the challenges of ocean management and planning.
